With greater emphasis on qualifications being required
from Local and Regional Councils, NZ Transport Agency, ACC, DoL, Territorial Authorities,
the corporate sector and other Principals the requirement to show that employees are trained for the
work they do is becoming a necessity in todays competitive environment. Meeting the
Industry Standards and being able to gain external training, assessment and qualifications
all contribute to a companys marketability and attributes.
Background to Training
I have been involved in adult education
since 1976; first as an NZ Army
Instructor at the School of Military Engineering, then training my own employees
in the
80's, followed by compliance training in the 90's. In 2000 I established Land
Based training - Construction Ltd in partnership with Land Based
Training Ltd (LBT) a Private Training Establishment (PTE) that
specialised in TEC funded Agricultural and Pastoral employment related
training.
My role was to use my expertise from
operating my contracting, compliance consultancy and training background
to expand LBT's accreditation by writing training and assessment
resources, deal with ITO's and liaise with existing clients to up-skill
their workforce. As an accredited National Trainer for Transit New Zealand I trained
approximately 10% of the 40,000 people trained as Traffic Controllers to
2008 when they became the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA).
I presently provide
training on behalf of NZTA, polytechnics, Employment
Relations Education and several Industry Training Organisations (ITO).
